Design For Manufacturability Guide

DFM Guide CoverCreating the optimal design for manufacturability requires that you understand the many variables of the final form and function of your part, so the proper materials, processes, tolerances, and geometries are allocated and executed to your specifications from the beginning.

It’s important, as you plan your design, to designate the qualities you require in your finished part, including (but not limited to):

  • Material thickness
  • Strength and durability
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Conductivity properties
  • Plating requirements
  • Edge characteristics
  • Finishing/secondary operation needs, such as the removal of burrs

This DFM Guide discusses the factors to consider when designing your part for manufacturability. Establishing these requirements at the onset of your project will promote a successful collaboration between you and your supplier.
